Single but ready to mingle

To the Single Gang,

We’re probably the biggest hoarders in the world. Nobody knows about our invisible bag. This bag is always filled to the brim. And, if people were to open it up and flip it – all the ‘you’ll find love, just be patient’ advise from friends, cousins, classmates, colleagues, or even parents would come tumbling out like dominos. Every time someone utters those comforting words - We smile and dump it in the bag. We hoard hopes. Hopes of finding love. And, it hurts.

Some of us have fallen in love and even walked out of it in the past. Some of us are still looking for people that fit our checklist. Some of us have been rejected time and again for reasons that'll never make sense. It feels as if we’re doomed to be alone. Without a partner. Even the speed dating and right swipe culture is taxing. The act of small talks and vomiting my likes and dislikes in front of every person I match is painful and sucks the life out of me. At times, it leads to self-doubt and I even end up questioning my personality. Even when I look at couples on the streets, cafes, or theatres; the sight pricks the already fragile heart.

Sure, You and I, we enjoy our own company. Sometimes even succeed in playing the make-believe game to fool ourselves. But deep down, the heart yearns for something special. That connection. That touch. The butterflies. The romance. And, we want it so bad. I feel you. We are on the same island. Battered. Waiting.

But, here’s the thing about this world – While we wait, people magically come around throwing hopes like confetti. And, you and I, we fill up bag loads. We never run of it. Maybe, that’s why when we’re just about giving up; we stop to take one last (every time) look across the street, our heart will always skip a beat whenever ‘you’ve matched with someone’ notification pops up, and our palms will still sweat when a friend sets us up for a blind date.

And, that’s hope. Hold on to it. Make friends with your personality. Carry that invisible bag. Who knows, maybe magic is just one hope away :)
